Description: This dinky, 9/16" cello lapel stud is from when Theodore Roosevelt bolted his life-long Republican Party after their convention failed to give the former president its nomination in 1912. He formed his own Progressive or "Bull Moose" Party and ran against sitting GOP president, William H. Taft and democrat New Jesey governor, Woodrow Wilson. Of course, he didn't win because he split the conservative block of voters up, allowing Wilson to win a plurality with only about 42% of the vote, just like Ross Perot did with Bill Clinton in 1992. However, Teddy DID come in second, which must have been rather embarrassing for Taft! When asked after that stressful 1912 convention how he felt, TR responded by saying that he was as strong as a bull moose, so that image stuck as his new party mascot. But he was so famously known by most people by just his initials, that this pin's an example of all the advertising for him that was needed at the time!
