This card has a 3/16” mark in the upper right corner on the back from when I was a boy to distinguish my cards from those of my cousin. After playing with the Birmingham Black Barons until graduating from high school, he won rookie of the year title with the New York Giants in 1951. Voted NL MVP in 1954 he led the Giants to their last World Series championship before moving to the west coast. His incredible catch in the first inning of game 1 at the Polo Grounds of a deep drive off the bat of Vic Wertz of the Indians is simply referred to as “the catch.”.
