Description: Civil War Store Card for George Worthington & Company, Hardware Dealers in Cleveland, OhioFuld OH175S-1b (brass) R-6 NGC MS-63George Worthington opened a hardware store in Cleveland sometime around 1829 and it prospered. During the Civil War, store card tokens for the business were obtained from Cincinnati token maker William Lanphear. Two distinctive custom dies were prepared. The die used to strike this extremely scarce token variety depicts a circular saw blade. The other custom die features a padlock. The saw blade die is the rarer of the two and it was only used to strike one other very rare token variety, the same die combination as this variety but struck on a copper planchet. This is an attractive, uncirculated specimen is among the finest known for this variety.Shipping is free. Should this token fail to meet your expectations, it can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Sales tax, if applicable, is collected by Ebay and submitted directly to state authorities. We appreciate your business!
