Description: *UPDATED WITH PHOTOS OF THE MOVEMENT* Croton Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver 38.5mm Stainless Steel Nivada Grenchen This is a pre-owned Croton Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver, a striking example of 1960s chronograph design. Known for its adventurous spirit, this model was crafted during an era when sports watches were in high demand, and it has remained a favorite for vintage collectors. The watch features a robust 38.5mm stainless steel case with bevelled lugs and a black bi-directional aluminium bezel, all in excellent condition. Its deep black dial is original, complete with broad arrow hands and lumed hour markers that have aged to a rich mustard hue, adding a classic patina. The dial is signed “Croton Chronograph Aviator Sea Diver,” underscoring its history and unique heritage. This example stands out with its high-quality Valjoux 23 chronograph movement. The movement is manually wound, with a power reserve of 40 hours, 18,000 A/h, and 17 jewels. The sub-second at 9 o’clock and 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock—including a yachting countdown sector—enhance its functionality. I believe it is a 105/9870, but the case back was swapped with a 105/9865 case back at some point. Waterproof to 200m and shock-resistant, this model is more than just style; it’s built to withstand the elements. Paired with a black leather strap, this watch is ready to wear and enjoy. It is from the 1960’s, so please be careful and understand it might not still have the same capabilities 60+ years later. Please note, this is a vintage piece in good condition. It has been preserved carefully and is fully functional, though it may require periodic servicing given its age. As seen in the photos, the lume on the dial and hands has patina, and the dial has some small dots due to age. The crystal is a bit wavy, but that doesn’t change the functionality or readability of the watch, and in my opinion only adds to the character. I’m not sure what caused the wavy crystal, and because this is my first time dealing with one of these, I don’t know if the case has ever been polished.
