Description: A stunning original 1930s Art Deco earth mined emerald cut Ceylon sapphire and fine white diamond solitaire engagement ring hand crafted from luxurious solid 14K yellow gold. This gorgeous ring features a large 3.01 carat fine Ceylon blue sapphire which is emerald cut. It is rare to find emerald cut sapphires due to the shape of the original sapphire crystal which means a lot of weight is lost to obtain this beautiful shape when the crystal is cut. The sapphire is loupe clean and is a divine paler shade of classic Ceylon blue. The color is very pretty. In addition to the large precious emerald cut earth mined untreated blue sapphire there are also the following fine diamonds set in this ring: • 2 VS, G/H round brilliant cut bezel illusion set diamonds each approximately 4 points • 2 SI, G/H round brilliant cut bezel illusion set diamonds each approximately 2.5 points This makes the total diamond weight 13 points. The precious sapphire and fine diamond weight in total for the ring is 3.13 carats. As you would expect for a custom made engagement ring dating to the Art deco period the entire ring has been hand made. In total it weighs 6.92 grams. It is in lovely condition and is ready to gift or to wear. When the ring is on it is 3/8" long down the finger and rises 3/8" high off the finger (9mm, 8.5mm). Currently this ring is a size 6 1/2 USA sizing. There is some leeway to resize. Colored gemstones have been shown over recent years to make excellent purchases as heirloom pieces especially engagement rings. This is because over time precious colored stones have historically and also in current times continued to appreciate more rapidly in value than diamonds. An appraisal shall accompany this item. This appraisal has been made by a professional Gemologist and accredited Jewelry Appraiser who is a specialist in the field. Unfortunately, in the last two decades many sapphires seen in modern jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion, deep diffusion and beryllium treatment. In recent years sapphires have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a sapphire. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. Like all colored stones there is a color variation that occurs in different lighting conditions both inside but also outside, even the time of day can make the color of a stone appear a little different.
