The hood fits over the original eyepiece or any eyepiece correction lens that is attached to the viewfinder and then a retaining ring holds it in place. Designed to prevent stray light from entering the viewfinder it makes focusing easier and reduced eyestrain. It can also reduce flare when the light is very bright behind you.
