Description: Original Vietnam War NLF Battle Flag - From my personal collection A rare and significant artifact from the Vietnam War, this NLF (National Liberation Front) battle flag is inscribed with "NLF Resolve To Destroy Enemy Bases At PHAN THIET, 1968". These flags were used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War and often featured bold, embroidered messages. The flag is an NLF flag noting the victory at Phan Thiet of the Communist NVA during the Tet Offensive of 1968, in which my airborne battalion and its task force support units participated, earning our units and each individual the Valorous Unit Citation. The NLF tried numerous times to capture the city of Phan Thiet and failed until the fall of South Vietnam in 1976. This flag is a fascinating piece of history. The NLF battle flag is indeed a significant artifact from the Vietnam War era, particularly with its specific inscriptions and translations. It is a valuable item, not only because of its rarity but also because of its connection to my airborne battalion and the support units experiences during the battles for Phan Thiet which is detailed in my book “They Called Us Currahees – The 3-506 Vietnam Legacy”. The purchaser of this flag will receive an autographed copy of my book.Details and Translations: Top: "Luc Luong Vo Trang Giai Phong Mien Nam Viet Nam" – "The Armed Force of NLF (National Liberation Front) to Liberate South Vietnam." Bottom: "Quyet Tam Giai Phong Thi Xa Ham Tan – Phan Thiet" – "Determine to Liberate The towns of Ham Tan – Phan Thiet." Inner Circle Top: "Anh Dung 1968 Kien Cuong" – (These are the mottos of battalion N14 – "This is the flag of this battalion.") Inner Circle Bottom: "Tlieu Doan N14" – "Battalion N14" The above translation was done by Duc Tran, a Vietnamese friend who escaped South Vietnam after the Communist North Vietnam took over South Vietnam on April 30, 1975, during the event known as the Fall of Saigon. This marked the end of the Vietnam War and led to the reunification of Vietnam under communist rule. The formal reunification of the country into the Socialist Republic of Vietnam occurred on July 2, 1976. He states, “So this was the flag of battalion N14, a unit of NLF force (as noted by the color of the NLF flag inside the circle)." The meticulous translation by my friend Duc Tran adds another layer of historical context to this item. Flags like these were often used for propaganda purposes and to boost morale among the troops, making them highly sought after by collectors and historians alike.
