Description: BETWEEN FRIENDS Artist: OTTO GOLDMANN _________________ A HIGH QUALITY ETCHING PRINTED IN THE 1880'S!! PERFECT FOR FRAMING AS AN ART PRINT FOR YOUR DEN !! VERY ANTIQUE & OLD WORLD LOOKING. ITEM(s) OVER 110 YEARS OLD!! How universal is the propensity to gossip! Shared by every condition of life, in all lands, and in every age, it is one of those touches of nature which give assurance of the world's kinship. The group in our picture is true to the life. The aged trio are having a delectable mental feast. It is quite possible that they mistake their prying comments and petty speculations upon their neighbors' affairs, for a benevolent interest. It is equally possible that they flatter themselves that they would be the last persons in the world to harm those to whom they devote so much of their time and talk. Yet here they are, industriously canvassing all the mean and trivial rumors and gossip that they have collected since their last meeting. The artist has treated them with all possible lenity. The countenances of the men are crond natured, despite the sly and very knowing expression which lights them up. The woman's face, it must be committed, has in it a suggestion of vinegar-or, should we attribute her rather severe look to her reprehension of the things that are being said? It is, as we all know, a common thing for persons engaged in the dissemination of scandals, to appear shocked and pained lest the reports should really be true. The man on the right is just making a revelation of unusual interest. He has, of course, begun by saying. "This is to be strictly among ourselves; I wouldn't have it repeated for the world." He raises his hand to his lips, lest some clandestine listener may chance to catch a word. From his own look and the eager suspense of his companions we are pretty sure that what he has to say is something unusually damaging to character. Otto Goidmann, who has so skilfully delineated this scene, was born in Berlin in 1844. and obtained his art instruction in the Academy of that city, and under Karl Gussow. He has attained an honorable standing among the genre painters of his country. SIZE: Image size in inches is 6 1/2" x 8 1/2", overall page size is 10 1/2 " x 16 1/2". CONDITION: Condition is good.
