Description: Vintage 30s/40s Red W Letterman Sweater, Pittsburgh Sports Shop, Near perfect condition. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. Red knit yarn (thinking its wool) with red and white applique letter. I gathered its from the 1930s/40s after some in depth research on "The Pittsburgh Sports Shop Inc" (noted on tag), as well as the styling of the tag and the sweater. The shop was a commercial sporting goods store, and it’s owner played a significant role in local amateur and semi-professional sports teams. Various newspaper articles reveal that the shop sponsored baseball as well as basketball teams/leagues. The shop also served as a place where leagues met to organize. The original owner passed away in 1959. I have attached a copy of his obituary. The store was active into the 1960s. I’ve attached an advertisement for the business as well. Given the leagues and teams that they were involved with over multiple decades, I am not certain what team this sweater is related to.
