Description: VINTAGE S.D. MYRES EL PASO TOOLED LACED LEATHER THREEPERSONS HOLSTER FOR S&W N FRAME 4" BARREL. Offered for your consideration, an excellent, almost as new S.D. Myres basket weave and border tooled leather holster for the big S&W N Frame 4" barrel revolvers. Marked as shown with the "S.D. MYRES EL PASO, TEX." stamp. Holster is superbly leather edge laced to around the toe as shown. Born in 1871 in Johnson County, Texas, Samuel Dale Myres was the oldest of six children. He became a skilled frontiersman by riding, roping, and fence building to help his father and neighboring ranchers. At an early age, Myres took up an apprenticeship at the T. R. James and Sons Saddlery located in nearby Cleburne, TX. and started learning the art of quality saddle making for 3 years. For the next 5 years, Myres earned his living by doing saddle piece work for various saddle makers in Texas. It during this period that S. D. Myres began to develop his artistic talent for drawing and carving his own designs and making finely crafted saddles and holsters. In 1893 at 22 years old, S. D. Myres moved to Weatherford, Texas where he began working for M. B. (Doc) Kouns, applying the skills he had been perfecting over the previous 8 years. Myres opened the S. D. Myres Saddle Company in Sweetwater, Texas in 1898. He was involved in many civic organizations and became the mayor of Sweetwater from 1908-1911. Throughout the early part of the 1900s Samuel Dale Myres had acquaintances with many notable individuals including Pancho Villa, Colonel Joe C. Miller, Pawnee Bill, Theodore Roosevelt and General George C. Patton. After a fire consumed his shop in Sweetwater, in 1920 Myres moved his company to El Paso, Texas. The company became famous for its superior craftsmanship and Myres mingled with many famous western actors and personalities of his day. It was in El Paso that Myres worked with Lawman and Gunfighter Tom Threepersons to develop the first "Tom Threepersons" holster. During World War II, when he let his beard and hair grow long, Myres bore a striking resemblance to Uncle Sam; hence his nickname, Tio (Uncle) Sam. In July of 1953, Myres passed away and was buried in El Paso. Retention strap with brass snap and will fit up to a 2" belt. Holster is in exceptionally fine condition as shown and shows little or no use. S&W Model is shown for illustration of fit and is not included in auction.
