Description: Photographs throughout Ad: Offered for auction from a recent Estate sale is the following an ORIGINAL VINTAGE YASHICA MG-1 RANGEFINDER CAMERA WITH YASHINON 45 MM 1:2.8 LENS MADE IN JAPAN AS NOTED ON LENS. The Yashica MG-1 was introduced the MG-1 in 1975 as a successor of its Electro 35 series. It is a fixed-lens rangefinder cameras with aperture-priority exposure. Below is additional information on this Vintage Used camera as received from estate sale. This Vintage camera exhibits minimal if any surface ware,(appearance is excellent as photos will show). The Camera appears to be complete. It is untested as to film development and battery capabilities. The shutter appears to function properly when activated. Lenses appear to be in good condition when looking out the view port for distance and or close view. The lenses appear clean. When viewing the lens with film removed when shutter activates there appear to be no discoloration when activated. I haven’t cleaned the lenses they are as found. As photos shows the camera appears in very good external condition including open back for loading film. When film advances the shutter is clicked and awaits activation which functions fine. The lenses on the camera are noted MADE IN JAPAN YASHINON 45 mm 1:2.8 LENS as noted above. On the bottom of the camera Hong Kong and serial number of 70610077 is impressed as photos will show. Released in 1975, the Yashica MG-1 is considered to be the last member of Yashica's rangefinder camera line, and one of the “last samurais” before the so-called Plastic Age. It's a fixed-lens 35 mm rangefinder camera equipped with a Yashinon f/2.8 45 mm lens and aperture-priority automatic exposure. The Yashica MG-1 was introduced the MG-1 in 1975 as a successor of its Electro 35 series. It is a the fixed-lens rangefinder cameras with aperture-priority exposure. Compared to its main competitors it has a rather large and heavy body. The lens is a fixed Yashinon 45/2.8 (5 elements in 4 groups) which focuses from about 1m to infinity and takes 55mm filters. The aperture priority exposure system is measured by a CdS meter above the lens (Top-Eye) was innovative and allows the use of filters and needs no compensation for them. Ths shutter is and electronic-controlled step-less leaf shutter with speeds from 1/500 sec. to about 2 sec. Two LEDs on the top of the body indicate slow speed (under 1/30) and over-exposure. Flash-sync is possible in X-mode with a lever in the body, which sets the shutter to 1/30 (Manual) or Auto fill flash. The MG-1 uses a 5.6V mercury battery (Mallory PX32, Eveready E164 or equivalent) which are now banned but can be replaced with 4LR44 batteries and an adapter. The MG-1 is an odd combination of the old oversized body with a more simple lens. It almost looks like that Yashica wanted to get rid of already produced Electro 35 series parts in form of a cheaper camera, without jeopardizing their new high end model Electro 35 GL (better lens, slightly smaller body) or the other entry model Electro 35 FC (similar lens, compact body). Interestingly, this is the only camera of the entire series, which does not carry the term "Electro" in its name. The camera was available with either a black or chrome body. This camera as photos will show is a chrome body. After 1983, all Yashica brand cameras were marketed by Kyocera (Kyoto Ceramics), which also made newer Contax cameras. By 1985, the company was facing intense market competition from other manufacturers, especially Minolta, which had introduced a competitively priced and advanced autofocus 35 mm SLR camera. Yashica eventually introduced its own autofocus 35 mm SLR camera line that was overpriced and poorly marketed in comparison to its competition. In response, Kyocera gradually repositioned the brand as a budget-priced point-and-shoot camera line, moving production from Japan to Hong Kong (as noted on the bottom plate of this camera), and discontinued high-end SLR camera production.
