Description: This listing is for restoration service of any of the Zenith D7000 series radios chassis numbers 18ZT40Z3, 18ZT40Z, 500MDR70.These radios are high performance and rugged but they do require servicing after almost 50 years. A problem area is the electrolytic capacitors which will eventually fail with time. All vintage radios are susceptible to this problem and it requires replacement with new components. Luckily new versions of these part are readily available from multiple sources. Controls get scratchy and intermittent so they need treatment with contact cleaner. Alignment of the RF oscillator circuits need to be adjusted to maintain dial calibration. The restoration service consists of the following items:Completely disassemble and clean the cabinet.Repair the broken internal dial window tabs. All D7000 radios have this problem where the internal metal tabs break off and float around inside the cabinet.Replace all 12 of the failure prone electrolytic caps with modern equivalent or better ratings. Absolutely necessary on a 50 year old vintage radio. I usually find a few of these caps bad or with high ESR readings indicating already failed.Check dial calibration and operation on all bands. Precision signal generator used. Adjust as required.Adjust the FM and AM IFs with a sweep generator.All controls, slide switches, transistor sockets and band switch cleaned with DeOxit contact cleaner. No scratchy volume control.Lubricate tuning shaft.Verified operation on all bands for sensitivity. All controls and functions verified.The side panel coverings are susceptible to shrinkage or peeling. At the buyers option, I will include replacement of the side panel covering with marine grade black leatherette vinyl cloth. The process works as follows: Buyer purchases the service which includes the return shipping charge.Buyer is responsible for packing and shipping the radio to me.Message me for shipping instructions.Radio will be serviced and returned to buyer in 2 weeks or less. This assumes the radio is in basic working condition. If not, please message me with condition before purchasing since there may be additional cost and in some cases it may not be possible to repair because of parts availability. Simple repairs like transistor replacement is covered by the basic service.
